This may not be significant if you are, for example, providing information for representatives or members of an organization to refer to. However, if you are going to sell products and/or services you must have advertise your web site.
Think of the Internet as an information superhighway without roadsigns. Search and listing web sites (engines) provide 80% of the traffic to web sites. You will need to list your site on those web sites, in the appropriate categories, to get traffic from visitors. This does not happen overnight either; it can take months to simply get a listing unless you a willing to invest a considerable amount of your budget. Most of the search engines do not charge for listing your web site, however most do provide priority listing to those willing to pay extra for the service. So, be prepared to invest a considerable amount of time submitting information to those sites or pay someone for your site promotion.
